There is a place in modern day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place, there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition.

In this place, there is a boy with the body of a God and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

In this place, there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family, she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.

Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places... From the beginning of time, to the end of the world.

THIS IS THE FIRST PART IN A TWO-PART SIGN OF LOVE SERIES INSPIRED BY AQUARIUS. THE SECOND PART, FINDING EDEN, WILL RELEASE SIMULTANEOUSLY. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

This was a truly beautiful and unique book. I have come to expect great writing, fresh storylines and wonderful feels from Mia Sheridan’s stories but Becoming Calder knocked it out of the park. The writing and flow of this story was perfection. From the gritty, mysterious, and heartbreaking prologue to the innocent past of these young characters, you get a good look at who they are and how much they had to endure. The writing engulfed me in the story and captured me in the words. Once I started, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.

This was such a uniquely forbidden love story. Beautiful, captivating and in some ways very tragic. Deep emotion ran through the entire book with a beautiful innocence woven throughout that had my heart melting. There were also parts that had my blood boiling and my teeth grinding at the injustice some of the characters had to endure.

Calder does not live in our modern world. He lives in a world only his leader, Hector, allows and his parents devoutly follow. Calder follows without question because it’s all he’s ever known, until a blue eyed, blonde hair girl show’s up and changes everything.

“A morning glory is a beautiful flower, delicate-like. Blue just like your eyes”

This beautiful young girl with golden hair has come to be Hectors bride and lead them all to Elysium, their paradise or “heaven.” But the pull Calder and Eden have for each other is immediate. Even at a young age, they were drawn to each other and curious. However, Hector was very protective of young Eden and kept her in her gilded cage in the main house, not allowing her to explore the land and the people in it. But Calder and Eden remained curious from a far.

“Hi, Morning Glory”
“Hi, Butterscotch”

Over time, deeper feelings emerge and doubts about their beliefs come into play. Secret meetings, stolen glances, morning glories and butterscotch candies trail the way to thoughts of the ‘what ifs’ of tomorrow. Is there real life beyond the only place Calder has ever known and Eden barely remembers? However these feelings are deeply forbidden, even though it feels right, she’s set to marry another man and help lead his followers to salvation. But how can something that feels so right be wrong? How can something that feels so natural and good be evil?

“I’ve wanted you for so long. So long. Every waking minute, in my dreams, too. I want to bury myself in you, drown in you, and never come up for air. I want you to be mine, and only mine.”

Calder had a quiet assertiveness about him. Even though he battled internally about what was wrong or right, he never wavered over what was best for Eden. Physically strong and resolute, his lack of experience outside his world was daunting. Even though Eden was innocent and sheltered in so many ways, she was fierce, determined and stubborn with a whole lot of courage. Together could they make a better life then the only one they’d ever known?

I absolutely fell in love with these characters. Even after the last page was turned I was thinking about their connection, their journey and the beautiful words that laid their path. I cannot WAIT to dig into Finding Eden for the conclusion of this stunning and original story.

Mia Sheridan placed her writing claws in me from the first word. I really enjoy this series. Such a innocence to it. Mia writes vey unique stories. When I started Becoming Calder I had no clue what it was about. I went in blind (due to my love of Archer’s Voice) and I was not disappointed.

“As beautiful as a flower. As strong as a weed.”

This is a coming of age love story. A story of 2 kids who grow from friends, into lovers. Even in an environment where two people were never meant to be together, they find the purest love.

I liked all the characters, but one in particular won my heart and that was Maya, Calder’s sister.

“The thing about Maya was it was like that extra chromosome was filled to bursting with love.”

I really enjoy how Mia creates such great couples. Just figuring love and sex out in a beautiful way. I do love to read my smut, but this book was sensual, sweet, sexy and I enjoyed that they had to keep it all a secret. Like they were in there own little hidden world at times <3

“He was goodness-raw, unguarded goodness. It glowed in him. It was impossible not to want to drown in that type of beauty…to feel like I could happily wrap around his bones and suffocate in his skin.”

The only issue I had with this book was how young they are. It wasn’t a problem , I just have a harder time connecting. Becoming Calder does have a open ending, I wouldn’t so much call it a cliffhanger. But the author is awesome and is releasing both books on the same day, so once we finish this book, we can move onto Finding Eden.

“Please help me. I’m in so much pain. I’ve been broken in so many ways.”

The first half of the book was 4.5 stars 2nd half was 3.5 so I am giving it 4 stars. If you like younger characters, who have the angst of keeping there relationship a secret. Then you will love this!

I am off to read Finding Eden now!
