Bethany’s Year in Books! 2016

Bethany’s Year in Books! 2016

Hello! It’s the end of 2016 and I thought I’d share a wrap up of the books I read and the BIG STANDOUTS of the year. Below are some of my Goodreads stats. I ended up finishing 158 books which surpassed my goal of 125. I am surprised Fearless was my longest book read. I thought for sure it would have been Empire of Storms.    FAVORITE SERIES 2016 seemed to be the year of series for me. I read some amazing and epic series. Here are some of the standouts. I definitely recommend all of these. It is just so much fun to binge read a series from start to finish. (CLICK ON THE PICS FOR MORE INFO ON EACH SERIES)   FAVORITE REREAD I rarely reread books. Only my very favorites occasionally. I read Corrupt by Penelope Douglas twice this year. The first time was back in January […]

The Best of 2015: Our Favorite Reads!

The Best of 2015: Our Favorite Reads!

This is a list (in no particular order) of our favorite books read in 2015. These books weren’t necessarily published in 2015. However, they did stay with us all year long and some made our all-time favorites list. We read a variety of genres and a mix of traditional published and independent authors.  We hope you find a recommendation.      I have completely fallen for this book and the author! If you want something that will make your belly flip, action filled and full of heart filling romance then read this gem! REVIEW | AMAZON               If I had to choose one word to describe this deeply thought-provoking novel it would be HUMAN. Mankind is resilient, and beauty and life can rise from any obstacle. Station Eleven is a human story, and I definitely recommend it to all human readers. It is one […]

Winners & Flops: All the Books I Read in November

Winners & Flops: All the Books I Read in November

Source: Audiobook, ebook I basically took off the entire month of November from reading ARCs and writing formal reviews with a couple of exceptions. I’m super surprised by how many books I could read in one month. It was so much fun reading/listening to book after book with basically no pause. And, reading so many different genres was also a blast. Thought I’d post a quick rundown and the rating I gave each one.  Mostly I listened to audiobooks using the Overdrive app with a few ebooks mixed in. Maybe you will find a book or two to add to your TBR. So, what books did I read?   Audiobooks: • The McCabe Trilogy by Maya Banks (Historical Romance) – 4.5/5 STARS! Ignore the cheesy covers because this series was the bomb diggity. Each book in the trilogy is a different McCabe brother’s love story. These guys a hot Scottish alphas! The […]

Fall Reading & Creepy Stories!

Fall Reading & Creepy Stories!

Fall is in the air! Leaves changing colors, bonfires, smores, hoodies, football, pumpkins. It’s that time of year when you want to curl up with a fleece blanket and read certain kinds of books. Something Fall-ish, maybe something creepy, mysterious, and about the things that go bump in the night. Here are a few recommendations, and we think there’s a little bit of something for everyone: Fall-ish Romances I recently read this 3-book series from M.J. Haag. If you love Beauty and the Beast then A Beastly Tale definitely worth checking out because the first book is FREE! The author puts her own spin of the classic fairytale. This really was a great fall read because there’s an apple harvest that is major part of the plot. I’d classify this as New Adult Fantasy. Amazon | Goodreads We absolutely adored Penny Reid’s Truth or Beard. We first met the Winston […]

ERIN’S September Book Wrap Up!

ERIN’S September Book Wrap Up!

September was a great reading month for me. I kind of went on a review/blogging hiatus. Between school starting and getting back in the mom groove again. I read, and sometimes skimmed parts, that bored me. Lol! If I am reading an ARC I read every word, not wanting to miss a thing. Reviewing has that thought in the back of my head, knowing I have to write about this after and it puts a certain pressure on my reading zen. When I read for my own pure pleasure, I am a skimmer! Yep, I love the dialogue between the MC’s and some of the stuff in between isn’t entertaining to me so I just skim on by. The point to all that is, when I read whatever I finish a book and pick one up right after and so on. It’s so fun, almost like stretching out the book […]

The Process of Writing a Book Review

Every book reviewer has a different process they use to write their reviews. Some people write multiple drafts before they click the publish button, while others take the fly by the seat of their pants approach. I have been writing reviews for a couple of years now, and I thought I would share the process that works best for me. STEP 1: While I’m reading a book I like to take notes using the app on my smart phone. This is where I jot down my thoughts about the story or items I want to mention in the review. If I am reading a paperback I will jot down page numbers with quotes that catch my attention (ex. page 68, paragraph 2) If I am reading an ebook I also highlight quotes and passages I might use in the review or on a teaser graphic. STEP 2: Once I finish the […]

For the Love of Audio Books!

For the Love of Audio Books!

I have recently discovered a new love in my reading career and it’s AUDIO BOOKS! If you read as much as me then you know it takes up A LOT of time, and sometimes housework and daily chores suffer as a result. Years ago I did the 30-day Audible FREE trial and listened to The Help. The experience was truly magical in the way the narrators brought the story to life. However, Audible was too expensive for my meager budget, so sadly, I canceled my Audible account after the 30 days. A few months ago my local librarian told me about the Overdrive app. Overdrive is an app that links to your local public library, and it gives you access to 1000’s of FREE ebooks and audiobooks. So needless to say, Overdrive changed my life because I am now able to read/listen to books I would have never been able to […]

Buy on Amazon Goodreads Genres: Contemporary, Romance Do you need to love someone to be happy? Does happiness mean a fairy tale ending? Caden Riley challenged me from the first moment I met him. It was more than his good looks or his fame as a photographer that drew me to him. He offered me things that I never knew I wanted, and didn’t demand more than I was willing to give. Was I happy? I’m not sure. Happiness is an emotion I’m unfamiliar with. But I finally knew what it felt like to experience real passion. To let go of all my inhibitions and surrender to my desires. It was enough for me, because it was more than I ever expected. Until Caden tempted me with possibilities. The possibility of a future; the possibility of a life I never imagined; the possibility of heartbreak and never hearing the words […]
