Second in the darkly compelling, sexually-charged contemporary romance trilogy, in which two men vie for the mind, body, and heart of a woman who may never give in to their wishes—or her own…

Evelyn “Scout” Keats has left behind her painful past of surviving on the streets, and is now living in the luxurious penthouse master suite of Hotel Patras with her lover, billionaire Lucian Patras. But what she doesn’t know is the price Lucien paid for her freedom.

To protect Scout’s life, Lucian cut a deal with a dangerous man from her past, Parker Hughes. He swore to stay away from her for thirty days, even though he knows Parker will be fighting to keep them apart for good and take Scout as his own.

Yet neither man realizes that Scout is not about to be used as a prize or a bargaining chip for any man’s power play—and she falls back on her hard-earned self-respect and courage to show both men that the only person she truly needs is herself.

But Lucien has other plans…

Kristi’s Review

3.5 stars. Pretty solid read. Didn’t like it as much as the first but it was a good follow up.

We start this book where book one left off. Scout is living with Lucian in his penthouse and continuing to adjust to life off the streets. However, Lucian’s deal with the devil is hot on his heals. He needs to prepare himself to let scout go for one month and cut all ties during that time. How can he do that when he feels such an unavoidable protectiveness over her? But his word is his word, so he must let her go.

There was a big part of me that didn’t get it. I also didn’t really buy into the story or the angst all this drama caused. I felt annoyed with the decisions Lucian made concerning Scout. However, there was another part of me that felt so sad for Lucian.

Scout is still tough as nails and my heart really hurt for her during this book. There is so much she doesn’t understand and so many situations out of her control. Her life is full of manipulations that she can’t see and her trust is being tested.

This book does end on one heck of a cliffhanger and I’m excited to find out how this plays out. I’m also looking forward to some big time groveling on Lucian’s part. 😉

“Be my queen, Evelyn.”

Bethany’s Review

I liked this book very much but not as much as I loved FALLING IN (book 1). That sometimes happens with a follow-up sequel in a trilogy. Seriously, it’s hard to live up to the awesomeness of Falling In.

Breaking Out picks up right where book #1 ends. Evelyn is trying to find her place in the world now that she’s off the streets and she doesn’t have to worry where her next meal will come. She’s learning to read, making friends, discovering her interests, and enjoying her love affair with Lucian.

He had brought her here, clothed her, sheltered her, taught her, and loved her. Lucian was home, her home.

Lucian made a deal with the devil in FALLING IN, and now it’s time to pay the piper, so to speak. That’s where Parker, Evelyn’s longtime friend, comes back into the picture. Boy, do we learn many sides of him!

Although this book didn’t have as many twists and turns, it was still highly erotic, added depth to the story, and I very much liked it. Ms. Michaels’ writing is outstanding, I cannot wait to read the conclusion of Evelyn and Lucian’s love story. I’m hoping we see some more of the villainous, Slade, in COMING HOME (book 3). I’m dying to know how Lucian is going to deal with both Slade and Parker. 4 STARS!

Erin’s Review

Breaking out is the second book in The Surrender Series. Lucian is a billionaire who has fallen in love with Evelyn the strong and prideful girl who grew up homeless. He wants to give her everything she has never had plus show her his kinky appetite for sex!

I love Evelyn’s character and watching her grow into woman who knows what she wants in the bedroom.

Lucian promised his word to Evelyn’s friend and he is regretting that BIG TIME! Sometimes when we are desperate, we agree to just about anything.

If you are looking for some off the charts HOT sex with great writing then I would recommend this series to you.

I gave this 3.5 stars not because the writing or lack of anything, I just think I am over this storyline or maybe it could have been my mood.
