When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.

As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.

A terrifying exploration of how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation, debut author Caroline Kepnes delivers a razor-sharp novel for our hyper-connected digital age. You is a compulsively readable page-turner that’s being compared to Gone Girl, American Psycho, and Stephen King’s Misery.

Review

YOU! YOU! YOU! Thank YOU for helping me out of a reading slump. OMG this audiobook! This creative plot and the author’s ingenious writing style made YOU the most refreshing book I have read in quite a while. Even though contemporary romance is my passion and first love, this book made me realize I need to push myself out of my comfort zone more often because I am beginning to realize my favorite reads are anything but contemporary (i.e. Asking for It).

Joe Goldberg is our main character, and the book is written from his POV in second-person narrative. Joe is such a fascinating and complex character. He is completely crazy, no if, and, or buts. He is a total sociopath, but damn, he made me laugh. Being in his head w as a trip. He obsesses, stalks, lies, murders, and doesn’t have any regrets. He just wants Beck, and he’ll go to whatever lengths to have her. Did I mention he is crazy?!

I’m not sure if I would have loved this book as much if I had read the ebook instead of the audio version because the narrator (Santino Fontana) brought Joe to life. He was perfect for the role, and his voice was so damn sexy. I’m telling ya, that man can narrate the hell out of a book! Ms. Kepnes’s words and Mr. Fontana’s voice had me hanging on the edge of my seat.

This book took so many digs at hipsters, tweeters, hashtaggers, and the social media obsessed culture that is our world. I started feeling kind of self-conscience about my tweets and hashtags…LOL. Even though Joe provides a plethora of comedy, YOU is a thriller. And according to Joe, YOU is a love story. However, this book is NOT a romance. It’s a vivid and mind-bending suspense novel.

*YOU can be read as a stand-alone, however, the author is releasing a follow-up novel Hidden Bodies. It is releases February 2016, and I’m dying to know what Joe is going to get up to in that book.
